Beginners gardening guide

January:

‘Tis the season to Garden.

Growing your own garden can be daunting if you’ve never set your hands in the soil before. But we’ve put together a beginner’s guide on how and where to start.

First things first get the right site of where you want to have your garden and get the right tools for it. There are so many options to choose from and it can be confusing to understand what you need to buy. Because you are starting out you only need a few basic tools. A good start is the Garden Master 3-piece hand toolset which comes with a Trowel, Fork, and transplanter. These tools will help you dig holes for planting, break up packed soil, loosen weeds.

Take time to prepare your soil to try and do this in advance before you start planting. Add compost: Choose between Garden Master 30dm or 60dm compost, depending on your garden size and work it into the turned-over soil until it’s mixed thoroughly using your shovel to even out the surface of the garden bed with a rake. Once it’s level, spray it with a hose to moisten the surface.

Your plants will need water to survive. This can be a little tricky how much water is enough for plants and when to water your garden. Ensure you only water your garden mornings or evenings, depending on weather don’t water your garden if it is raining on and off – only water your garden when it hasn’t been raining for a week or more. Always ensure you water the roots.
