Terms Used
  • New Wood - stem or branch of the current year's growth
  • Old Wood - stem or branch of a previous year's growth
  • Eye - lateral or auxillary bud to be found in the axil of a leaf
  • Vegetative Bud - bud from which a stem will develop
  • Flower Bud - bud from which a flower will develop
  • Leaders - shoots by which the main stems of roses extend themselves
  • Laterals - stems that grow from a leader
  • Snag - dead stump resulting from a pruning cut being made too far above a bud or too far from the junction of one limb with another
