Hydrangeas are certainly amongst the showiest of garden shrubs and have a profound impact on our summer gardens. Mophead hydrangeas (HYDRANGEA macrophylla hybrids) are deciduous plants of varying size and stature, and burst forth into bloom in late spring and early summer in shades of blue, pink, lavender, purple and white. Today many new hybrids are available, each reputed to be an improvement on the previous generation. Brighter colours, more compact plants and longer flowering periods are some of the criteria that determine which new hybrids are selected for further propagation and distribution. Read more...
